Digital Communications Coordinator

Full-Time in Oakland, CA - Remote OK - Marketing

About the Role:

The Last Mile (TLM) is a mission-based organization, disrupting the system of mass incarceration through education and technology training. TLM is excited to have an enthusiastic, mission-aligned communications coordinator join the Communication Team to support awareness-building for the organization and issues of social justice related to incarceration. The right candidate will have a passion for the mission of TLM’s work, as well as experience with social media, marketing, content creation, online advocacy, online campaigns, development efforts and PR strategies to support our growing online presence and physical expansion efforts.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Coordinate Digital Engagement

  • Daily management and engagement of social media platforms: Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter & TikTok
  • Utilize reporting tools to measure effectiveness of campaigns and strategies for communications and development
  • Develop emails/digital newsletters to keep an engaged TLM audience
  • Update and maintain the TLM email list
  • Connect with social media influencers that are mission-aligned
  • Under the direction of the Communications and Brand Manager, execute digital advertising via social media
  • Identify/research timely issues in social justice and justice reform to inform community on a wide range of ways to get involved from civic engagement to awareness building
  • Build out digital and social fundraising efforts with support from the Development Manager

Support PR, Fund Development and Marketing

  • Internal team and administrative support
  • Develop content that aligns with TLM’s brand and messaging
  • Support drafts and edits of internal and external copy, including press releases for a growing national audience
  • Maintain external-facing TLM updates including website, blogs and emails
  • Support Communications and Brand Manager on developing and producing large scale infographics, newsletters and external communications projects
  • Assist Development Manager on cultivating donor stewardship and/or coordinating events
  • Maintain databases for marketing and development departments.
  • Work with Communications and Brand Manager to brainstorm ideas for new content and storytelling opportunities
  • Create reports to support communication efforts, from programmatic growth to impact data
  • Support the Development Manager in prospect research and targeted outreach efforts
  • Support event planner with event coordination and logistics
  • Assist in grant proposal research and writing

Support Creative Content Creation

  • Edit, repurpose, and maintain existing print and digital marketing materials including, but not limited to social posts, newsletters, emails, branded templates, marketing and collateral material
  • Edit clips of videos for social media
  • Create and edit copy that is aligned with TLM’s brand and language guidelines

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • 2+ years of digital communications experience, including social media
  • Experience using design platforms such as Canva and the Adobe Suites
  • Experience using social media scheduling platforms (Sprout, Hootsuite, Buffer etc.)
  • Experience using Google Suite (preferred but not required)
  • Experience using Salesforce (preferred but not required)
